Magentify Composite Processing

Processing of CFRP, GFRP, AFRP

"Composites" is the term used to describe most modern high-performance materials which are mainly used in the lightweight construction. They often consist of carbon, glass or aramid fibers combined with thermoset plastics or thermoplastics.

Depending on the application, the cutting materials tungsten carbide uncoated, coated or DP are more or less suitable. Taking into account all aspects, DP offers more advantages and that's why LEUCO rely on this cutting material.

For the processing of abrasive CFRP, LEUCO relies on diamond-tipped shank-type cutters offering the highest possible edge lives and excellent cutting quality: Double-edged cutters, multi-tooth cutters, patented p-System cutters, drill bits with patented plunge tips and many more.

GFRP is the most frequently used composite material. For perfect cutting results, LEUCO offers, for example, diamond-tipped tools for this heat-sensitive materialthat tends towards chipping, material fracturing or delamination during processing.

The high ductility of the aramid fibers is a big challenge during processing.LEUCO is the only manufacturer offering for the cutting of AFRP a diamond-tipped shank-type cutter that provides a perfect cutting quality. The video shows how the patented LEUCO p-System cutter cleanly cuts the AFRP fibers.

Sawing and accessories

Sawing of composites

Sawing is the most effective machining method for long straight contours. This method is rather unknown for fiber-reinforced plastics. LEUCO saw blades achieve good cutting quality at high feed rates and provide long edge lives.

But tools are not alone responsible for successful machining. Often, it is only by intelligently combining tools, clamping elements and, if applicable, aggregate technology that the optimal and most economical machining results are achieved. LEUCO relies on modern and highly accurate clamping elements for precision tools which also contribute to your tool's edge life.

Why LEUCO?

65 years of experience

Fiber-reinforced materials are very new, state-of-the-art materials. Inhomogeneous fiber-reinforced material have completely different cutting properties than homogeneous metals. For the processing of composites, however, mostly tools and tool geometries known from the metal-working sector are currently in use.
For the processing of composite materials, LEUCO, on the contrary, relies on tools that are tipped with polycrystalline diamonds (DP), are provided with more complex geometries and have been proven for many years in the sector of woodworking, which is also a fibrous material. With 65 years of tool competence, LEUCO is able to provide innovative input for the composite processing.

Consulting

Based on various basic tool types and in collaboration with customers, LEUCO develops special solutions, tailored to meet all requirements. The following aspects are always taken into consideration:

  • Machine, material and material tension
  • Machining task and requirements in terms of machining quality
  • Economic aspects

Innovations and patents

The proven p-System tools for milling and our high-performance drill bits with their special cutting geometry position themselves with unique selling points. To complement them, LEUCO offers a large variety of other tools.

  • Talk to us about your specific requirements.
